What is a blog?

by | Jun 22, 2012 | Blog | 0 comments

A blog, put simply is a personal journal published live on the web consisting of posts usually displayed in reverse, so the most recent posts appear first.

The Internet is fast becoming a more social place and blogs have gained in popularity as millions enter the world wide web every day. Blogs have become more than online diaries. In fact, blogging has become an important part of the online and offline worlds with popular bloggers impacting the world of business, media, politics and society.

Blogs are usually written by one person, but this is not always the case. Like us, you may find a team contributing posts on different topics to add variety. So, what makes them so great for personal and business use? Here are a few elements that you should be aware of to make the best use of your blog:

  • You don’t need any technical knowledge: you can add pages or articles at a click of a button with most blogging platforms.
  • Automatically organised: Categories and archives are integral parts of a blog, each post is then automatically placed in the correct sections you have allocated.
  • Most good quality blogs are interactive: allowing visitors to leave comments and even send messages to each other. Bloggers often build strong social relationships with their readers.
  • Search engines love them: Google loves sites that are up to date so adding a blog to an existing site keeps it updated regularly with new content.

Whether it’s for sharing stories of every day life, or for business use, blogs can be highly enjoyable (and also a hugely effective marketing & communication tool for businesses).  If you’re interested in starting a blog speak to me on  0116 281 5731 or email us and I’d be happy to give you some ideas of how to get blogging!
